Died of AIDS-related pneumonia in Indianapolis, Mar. 2, 1988. Where he had moved to be near family.

Steve was born on Sep. 12, 1947 and was raised in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Steve was well known in Des Moines as the designer and proprieter of several popular gay bars. Among them were Minagrie, M-2, City Disco and Our Place. Steve later lived in Austin Texas, for some years. On March 17, 1986, Steve came to Cleveland to visit a friend, and stayed. His first exposure to Gay life in

Cleveland was helping distribute the Gay Peoples Chronicle.

Steve became a regular at a local gay self help group and quickly developed a whole network of friends. Steve, right up to the last was always planning new business ventures, in 1986 he came near to closing a deal to create a gay bar, restaurant, bowling alley on Cleveland's west side.

Steve will be sadly missed by his many friends in Cleveland and other cities. Local Friends will try to have a quilt panel ready for the Quilt's arrival in Cleveland.
